The Lumberjills

Written by Hannah Davies Directed by Tom Cornford for Common Ground Theatre

Cast: Amie Burns-Walker, Ashleigh Cordery, Jannah Warlow

The Lumberjills was a play commissioned by Dalby Forest and funded by Arts Council England. It told the story of the Women’s Timber Corps and of the experiences of the women who stepped up to the forestry work during World War Two.

‘Such is Davies’ skill at storytelling, memorable imagery and dialogue that it all feels as natural as wood, rather than a tick list, while she rallies to the cause of these "unspoken heroes" with unbridled admiration and passion.’ YORK PRESS

The play was written in response to documents and research into these women’s lives and was performed as a site-specific piece as an outdoor piece of theatre in Dalby Forest in 2016.
